Quarterly update
Quarterly update 2026
Over the past six months, we and our partners have tackled the main bottlenecks for emission-free shipping. In this update, we look back at Q1 and Q2 per workstream and look ahead to the second half of the year.
We are hereby sharing the quarterly update for Q1 and Q2 2026, with a look ahead to the second half of the year. In this quarterly update, you will read, among other things:
- The first funding accelerator — a case-driven session with financiers, public instruments and market parties, which clarified where financing gets stuck: cash flow in the initial years, uncertainty about residual value and utilisation, and limited contractual certainty.
- Solution directions for the financing gap — longer term repayment, financing the whole vessel rather than just the powertrain, unlocking additional earning potential, fleet approach and better risk distribution.
- The reference design for the GH2 tank container — in consultation with experts and engineers. The agreements leave energy container manufacturers design freedom, speed up certification, and allow for the pooling of energy containers.
- The plan of approach for charging infrastructure — published, with concrete cases in Zuid-Holland, Gelderland and Overijssel, among other places.
- HERE's the in-setting tool — worked with Topsector Logistics on a predictable ERE value in the business case and on the tool's design.
- Canopy — exploring the valorisation of particulate matter and NOx, with a coalition being formed around the Clean Air Agreement.
- The outlook for Q3 and Q4 — three funding accelerators, finalisation of the reference designs for battery and fuel cell, and the Infrastructure partner meeting on 29 October.
